The new Adalo: Don’t just build your app, build your business - with Ada.

The new Adalo: Don’t just build your app, build your business - with Ada.

The new Adalo is an AI app builder: describe your app to Ada, refine it visually, publish native iOS, Android and web apps, and export your code.

Before I talk about what’s coming next, I wanted to start with a quick scorecard. We’ve made commitments to this community, and you should know where they stand.

What happened to the 2024 commitments?

In October 2024, James shared a list of commitments. Here’s where each one stands:

  • 3x performance: ✅ Delivered with Adalo 3.0 in September 2025.
  • Removing app action charges: ✅ Delivered in February 2025.
  • Database overhaul: ✅ Delivered, including automatic indexing.
  • Deep linking: ✅ Delivered in April 2025.
  • Bug fixes: ✅ Ongoing, with updates shared on our changelog.
  • Public roadmap: ✅ Back since February 2025 on the forum.
  • Code export: ❌ Not yet delivered. Available with the new Adalo.

There’s work left to do, and we’ll continue to be clear about what’s delivered and what’s still ahead.

Why the shift

We knew what we had in Adalo, and what needed work:

  • Our visual canvas is our strength. It’s been our pride since 2019, helping people who have never written a line of code build and publish their own apps.
  • We know mobile publishing. Helping makers navigate the Apple App Store and Google Play remains one of the things we do best.
  • We needed a stronger foundation. For Adalo to become a platform you could confidently run a business on, performance, database infrastructure and reliability all needed investment. We needed upgrades under the hood, not just cosmetic - a Ferrari with a Honda engine can only go so fast.

While we were strengthening that foundation, the way people wanted to build was changing too.

I’d be lying if I said we weren’t scared: AI was changing expectations at a pace none of us could ignore. A drag-and-drop canvas on its own was no longer enough, however intuitive it was. We had to acknowledge that the time and effort it took to build an app on Adalo were becoming too much to ask, given what people could now get started with elsewhere.

We had two options: pivot or perish. We chose to work out where our experience could make the biggest difference.

How Adalo could stay competitive

We spent time understanding the limitations of the current vibe-coding platforms and AI coding tools, particularly for the people we’ve spent years building for: non-technical individuals trying to build a business.

These tools have made so much possible. But getting some code is only part of the work:

  • Security, reliability and performance matter when people depend on your app.
  • Your data, tools and services need to connect to what you’re building.
  • As the limitations melt away, so do the guardrails. The lack of infrastructure for makers has put some people in deep, deep trouble.
  • You need the time to get it right. For a non-technical person, learning all of this - even with prompting - can take weeks or months, and you never know where you go wrong.

And if you’re already running a business, where do those months come from? The business doesn’t pause while you learn a new technology.

That’s where we saw an opportunity to bring together what AI makes possible and what we’ve learned over years of helping people build apps. We’ve helped publish close to 2 million apps for 3 million people on our platform. There’s a lot of learning behind those numbers.

With the new Adalo - we want you to spend more time building your business, with less time spent figuring out how to make the builder work or going through tutorials. Nobody has time for that.

And what about pricing?

We’ve learned a thing or two from our recent pricing experiments. We also know that pricing decisions affect what you can afford to build with us, and whether you feel confident staying as your business grows.

A few things are guiding us:

  • We’re mindful of not pricing our makers out. Even though the infrastructure costs of supporting our free offering have risen, we have to account for both.
  • Grandfathering our users. No old user will need to move their pricing anywhere.
  • Your success shouldn’t come with a penalty. No gates on app actions or users. Ever.

Predictable, sustainable and reasonable. That’s what we’re working towards.

We’re building a business, and so are you. The new Adalo needs to work for both of us, from the first version of your app to the business you hope it becomes.

Next Steps

We cannot wait to release the product that we’ve been pouring ourselves into for the past few months. To hear from you about it - and more - I’d love to extend my availability. You can reach out to me directly at astha@adalo.com. You can also book time with me directly for a 15 or 30 min chat on my calendar here to talk through your experience with Adalo.

We know there will be teething issues in a new product, and we hope you will let us know about them - we promise to solve them at lightning speed. We can’t wait to see what you build with the new Adalo.
