We Have Removed App Action Overages

As of February 6, 2025, App Actions no longer factor into your Adalo bill. Every subscription plan in Adalo will no longer have App Actions charges (even if it says so on the website for now, and your in-app analytics still displays a count of App-Actions). To be clear, the mechanism of App Actions that make your app work will remain, but you will have unlimited App Actions. Here is why:

A few years ago Adalo released a feature known as “App Actions”. The logic for adding the feature was pretty straightforward: as app usage increases, so does infrastructure usage (and therefore expenses) and therefore more popular apps should bear the burden of at least some of these costs.

Soon after taking the helm at Adalo, I began meeting with Makers, and almost every Maker identified App Actions billing as the thing they hated most about using Adalo. In fact, it was described to me as the ‘App Actions Event’ that happened in Adalo’s history. Obviously, we build apps because we want them to get popular and be successful, and it is often the case that apps get popular before they start making money. So Makers were understandably concerned because if their app went viral, simple math showed they would be facing a huge bill.

It’s an exciting day to be able to reverse that decision based on the feedback that the Adalo community has been so vocal about. This isn’t a decision that is good for Adalo’s revenue, but as a company we have chosen to deliver what is best for our Maker community, and trust that what is good for the community will also be good for Adalo.

We have been very busy on the engineering side, and will have a giant update with regards to Adalo 3.0, stability and speed improvements. But our CTO, Jason, thought removing App Actions billing was so important to everyone that it deserved its own post :)

We do have new pricing, which will be based on a core subscription and a menu of add-ons, which is being worked on, that is still in development. No one will be forced to migrate from their current subscriptions. The reason this is taking longer than we hoped to deliver is a number of backend services had to be upgraded before we could feasibly make subscription changes. And we didn’t want to delay removing App Actions billing :)
